Many Ghanaian ladies have become a victim of what we call
defilement. Some are rape during robbery attacks, early marriages at a tender
age, broken homes, or pressure from peers.
What do we mean by defilement?
Defilement is any sexual intercourse with a child under the
age of 18 years, whether or not the Childs consent. The awful acts which is a
crime under the laws of the country causes great trauma to victims.
Children who are defiled have physical injuries inside or
outside their bodies which includes cuts, tears, severe bleeding and damage to
internal reproductive organs which sometimes requires surgery.
Victims of this inhuman act may undergo psychological damage
which may also include depression, fear, anxiety, distrust and sometimes
suicidal thoughts.
Effects such as
HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases, interruption of school (as victims
are forced to drop out of school) are all results of defilement.
