CHANGE OF ATTITUDE, A SOLUTION TO SANITATION

Filthy environment has become one great killer in today’s society, eating up lives and destroying of our natural resources. It is estimated that more than 20,000 tons of waste is generated in the country daily with Accra alone accounting for 30,000 tons. Waste which comes in the form of solid, liquid, electronic and plastics end up in water bodies there by reducing fish stock in those water bodies.

In my quest to look up for some preventive measures to redeem our country from sanitation problems, l realized that the best solution has to do with our attitude as individuals.

A lot of article have been written on sanitation but if we become responsible citizens, sanitation wouldn’t have been a big blow to fight in today’s 21st century.

Parents must inculcate good habits into their children in their formative years and trust me, they will grow up to become sanitation conscious just as Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it”.

To have a change in attitude as citizens, National commission for civic education (NCCE), information service department (ISD) and other security agencies must rise up on their toes to enforce and educate the public on sanitation because they are all an instrumental tool when it comes to educating the citizens on National issues.

They must organize educative programs on sanitation and also stress on the sanctions that will be minted to individuals who goes contrary to the law.

I believe that if the ministry in charge of sanitation will collaborates with the Ghana education service, the media, National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Information Service Department (ISD) and other cooperate bodies, there will be a concerted effort to change the mindset of people towards maintaining the environment.

The time has come for us to galvanize the rank and file of our society to desist form polluting the environment, for cleanliness is next to Godliness.
God bless our homeland Ghana and make our nation great and strong.
