PRESS CENTER TO HOLD 25TH EDITION OF WORLD PRESS DAY.


Accra international press center is expected to hold the 25th anniversary of the world press freedom day on the 3rd may 2018 which is aimed at evaluating press freedom around the world.

According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), World Press Day is the fundamental principles of press freedom to defend the media attacks on their independence and to pay tributes to journalist who have lost their lives in the exercise of their profession.

Ghana, the host country for this year’s 25th anniversary is expected to have over 700 delegates and participant from all over the world who will join hands to celebrate the day in style with governmental touches, civil society hugs and global embrace.

Briefing the press today in Accra, the president of Ghana journalist Association, Mr. Affail Monney , noted that theme for this year’s celebration “ KEEPING POWER IN CHECK: MEDIA, JUSTICE AND THE RULE OF LAW” will be a historical one as Ghana has been given the opportunity to host the global event for the first.

Highlighting on the activities of the event, Mr. Monney noted that the GJA will collaborate with various institutions and bodies to organize three events namely a Symposium, a welcome and vigil and a panel discussion. 

The symposium according to Mr. Monney will be held in conjunction with the media regulatory body the National Media Commission (NMC) and the Ghana Writers Association (GAW) which is expected to kick-start on Thursday, April 26, 2018 from 9am to 1pm.

The celebration in Accra will feature an awards night, panel discussions, working sessions and a youth newsroom. The local organizing committee will also stage side social events to showcase Ghana’s tourism, sports and investment attributes.

Mr. Affail Monney urged all Ghanaian journalist to part take in this year’s 25th edition of world press day, for there are a lot of education to be learnt to equip all journalist for the task ahead.
