SOME INDIVIDUALS TO BE AWARDED BY PHILANTHROPY FORUM GHANA.


Philanthropy forum Ghana, a none profit organization has organized its 2018 national forum to award and acknowledge 10 individuals and two companies who have made immerse contribution to the development of the country.

The Awardees include Mr. Samuel Amo Tobbin, Executive Chairman , Tobbinco group of companies, His Royal Majesty Drolor Bosso Adamtey I (Suapolor) We (Shai), Naa Golbilla David Kansuk, chief of Nakpanduru- Northern region,Mr Siapha Kamara, Send-West Africa, Founder /CEO, mr. Francis Bichnord Komla A song, Executive Director Voice Ghana, Rev. Msgr. Alex Bobby Benson, Koforidua Diocese Of the Roman Catholic Church, Okyeame Kwame, Musician, song writer and Entrepreneur, Prof. Ebenezer Asafua and Mrs. Theodosia Wilhelmina Jackson, The Jackson foundation and Mr. Kwame Sefa Kayi- Chairman and founder of Kokrokoo Charities Foundation.

Speaking on the theme “ The role of the third sector (NGO's) in the attainment of National development” at the Accra Conference Centre , Mr. Ben Ocra, President of Ghana Philanthropy Forum noted that although not comprehensively recorded, the none profit sector has significantly contributed to the growth of the country and has the potential to move the country’s development forward given the necessary fillip. 

Mr. Ocra said the responsibility of filling up developmental gaps that may take government many years to cover is no mean responsibility and to effectively achieve this goal is by ensuring of sustainability and the harmonization of individual resources.

He added that the President’s Ghana Beyond Aid mantra is not just a fancy quote of a sort, but a clarion call to take the giant step of working out our own development rather than looking up to the occident (the West) for handout.

Delivering her speech at he Forum, the special guest of honor honorable Minister of Gender and Children Protection, Otiko Afisah Djaba, indicated that the work and contribution of philanthropist to national development cannot be overlooked and that Philanthropy is a critical part of a democratic society as it focuses on the elimination of social problems.


She said , philanthropist play a support ole in helping to scale good ideas with partners which helps to identify innovative solutions to challenging problems, test them out , develop the evidence of their efficacy and then share what is learnt and help demonstrate opportunities that can scale up good ideas sustained by the private and public sectors.

Hon. Otiko Djaba revealed that, A five- years strategic plan to eradicate Kayayei is being developed through the support of UNIFPA and also noted that a mapping of Kayayei is ongoing in the Major markets across the country to gather data on them to inform decision making and support for them.

She added that the Ministry is going to collaborate with other public and private partners such as the National Board for Small Scale Industries, the Ghana Social Investment Fund and the National Youth Authority and other faith Board Organizations to train10,000 Kayayei to provide them with decent jobs.

Highlighting on the initiated program” Operation get off the street now for a better life” hon. Otiko stressed that every child of school- going age  must be in school and stay in school until they complete.

“ The objective of the Operation get off the street now for a better life is to reduce the phenomenon of persons living on the street such as street children, Kayayei, hawkers, the destitute, beggars, persons with disabilities and persons with mental health problems” hon. Otiko stressed.

Hon. Otiko Djaba noted that her Ministry is prepared to partner with the Philanthropy Forum Ghana and other stakeholders working to promote the welfare and interest of women and children protection that is being worked on. She therefore called on all NGO's and CSO's to channel resources and efforts towards child protection and women empowerment to bridge the gender gap.
