The vice president of the republic of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu
Bawumia has today joined the men and women of the Ghana police Service to
celebrate its end of year get- together West Africa Security Service
Association (WASSA) party.
Speaking at the annual West African Security Service
Association (WASSA) get- together party at the police headquarters in Accra,
the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia commended the Ghana police for their
endless effort to fight crimes that took over the country in the early months
of this year.
Dr. Bawumia was accompanied by Minister of interior hon.
Ambrose Dery and some other top security chiefs.
The chairman of the event, Dr. Bawumia noted that 2017 was a
challenging year when it comes to the responsibilities, resources and budget
constraints within which the Ghana police operated but it is noteworthy and
admirable that the police Administration persisted in its efforts and
administered the limited resources to achieve those monumental feasts in the
year 2017.
“It is this attitude of commitment and dedication to duty
that has culminated into the successes recorded in 2017”, veep lauded.
Dr. Bawumia therefore urged the Ghana police service to marshal
all their strategies to help curb road accident which is taking up much lives and
has increased in the country.
The inspector General of Police, Mr. David Asante – Apeatu
at the event stated that the police administration has created a special motor
bike squad trained with the highest skills to confront robbers who ply their
activities on bikes.
Mr. Apeatu observed that the police service has partnered
with the Youth Employment Agency( YEA) to recruit 15000 personnel’s who will be
referred to as the community police assistance to assist in community safety
sensitization programs.
Inspector general of police, Mr. Apeatu added that the
police is piloting E- policing, restructuring and reforming the motor traffic
and transport department which is aimed at becoming a world class Police
service capable of delivering the plan, democratic, protective and peaceful
service up to the standard of international best practices.
He pleaded with the chairman of the police service Dr.
Mahamudu Bawumia to keep on supporting the Ghana police service to fully
actualize the government strategic objectives set to transform the Ghana police
Service.
